Ann was walking one day when the air was finally cooling to autumn. She saw her two friends. They blocked her path offering cruel words thinly veiled as an inside joke Ann could only be a part of if she remained the butt. Her brothers later told her, "they aren't your friends. Friends do not do that."
"Then I've never had friends," Ann thought, and winter came before the leaves fell, and so did her isolation.
Ann fled that town, with its suffocating memories, fled to a city where no on knew her, and she was surprised whenever someone loved her.

I wrote this in a class. The assignment was to write a full story on a post card. I loved it! But when I got the assignment back, there were no comments from the teacher. I was so disappointed! She couldn't find her sticky notes so no one got comments. I wanted to hear what she had to say because I had seen some other students cramming itty-bitty words on to their postcards to get the whole story out, where as I had room to add an extra line before I turned it in!
ReplyDeleteLater I wanted to share it with my therapist (that was a short lived thing though) because it was based on some events in my past, and I felt it summed up my mental state very elegantly.
I post it here and welcome your comments, I've been needing feed back on this one since I wrote it three years ago.
I love your story! You have protrayed so much emotion and imagery in so few words! Beautiful, and I totally relate to poor Ann.
ReplyDeleteI love it too Vivian! After I read the last sentence, I thought, that's how I feel! I'm quite often surprised that my hubby loves me the way that he does! Haha
